Take Action: The End of Copper POTS Lines is Near! (Replacement Options Included)

Did you know? The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) gave permission to start sunsetting POTS lines in 2017.

POTS stands for Plain Old Telephone System. Most POTS lines have moved away to alternatives but there are still 36 million active POTS lines in the US.

If you are one of the users, check out this webinar recap that prepares you to transition your existing POTS lines and services to an alternative service solution by August 2nd, 2022.

How Sangoma and VoIP Supply Can Help With POTS Replacement Options

Depending on your needs, ideally, we recommend replacing your on-prem equipment with Cloud PBX and replacing analog based equipment with IP compatible end-points which connect directly to IP service providers.

Alternatively, you can also keep your existing equipment and connect it to IP/VoIP/LTE service using a VoIP Gateway.

Check out these typical scenarios:

Scenarios 1: Sangoma SIPStation & Faxstation

  • Keep existing analog phone system
  • Integrate VoIP Gateway to connect to SIP Trunking service

SIP Trunking is cost-effective. It will save you on line rental and calls and it is very easy to add more calls. More advantages include:

  • Management – Choose where to deliver calls
  • Future proof – Ready to voice/data convergence
  • Contingency – In disaster reroute calls

What about fax? Sangoma’s FAXStation covers your fax needs:

  • Can use fax machine and/or eFax
  • Low monthly cost ($10 starting. $20 for high volume)
  • Works in low bandwidth situations
  • Avoids T.38 compatibility issues
  • No telco lines needed!
  • Just as reliable as the PSTN!
  • Easy management integrated with the SIPStation Portal
  • Fully-rebranded Custom Fax Portal options available to resellers

Here are the simple steps:

Scenario 2: Switchvox Cloud

Choose our affordable and powerful Switchvox Cloud business phone system. Switchvox is a scalable and flexible Unified Communication platform for the Cloud. It seamlessly integrates with Sangoma phones, PSTN connectivity, collaboration features and it allows for a complete cloud-based UC business phone system.

More features:

  • Web-based interface
  • Communicate on the go
  • Reporting and analytics
  • Customization and integration
  • Perfect for Contact Centers
  • We offer a complete business communications solution portfolio
  • 24/7 Support

Q&A Session:

Q: Would FAXstation meet HIPAA requirements for healthcare?

No, not as of today. But we are working on being HIPAA compliant.

Q: Does this copper sunset affect DSL internet especially for rural areas?

We are not entirely sure how this will be handled. All we know is that this can be the only option for certain areas and some might not have an alternative. Affected customers will receive a notification and explanations on how things will move forward, so if you are not being notified, I would assume your area is not affected.

Q: Does FAXstation support color fax?

Yes, FAXstation does support color fax.

Q: Can FaxStation receive fax to your email and fax machine simultaneously?

Yes, you would set up DIDs for inbound fax to both the portal and the devices. Even if it’s not set up that way, you can still review your fax in the portal.

Q: If I am using FAXstation, Can I add port #2 as a standard phone line just by adding a line in the console to the FAXstation device for an alarm?

FAXstation is for fax only so it will not support voice or anything else except for fax.

Q: Are you working on a built in broadband modem Cellular

No, this is not part of the schedule/ plan.
