Interesting developments on the Skype front include the first ever Skype phone booth installed in an airport in Estonia and a Skype voice changer that allows you to alter the sound of your voice during VoIP calls.
So, why install a Skype phone booth and why Estonia?
The Skype software was developed by a pair of Estonians and many development team members are still located in Tallinn, the city where this phone booth has been launched. The Estonian government is also on a mission to do away with all analog phone booths on the street. And why not? When’s the last time you haven’t been near a cell phone?
Detractors are saying that this would have been a great idea 10 years ago, the booths themselves are expensive (~$6,000), and they’re potentially unprofitable if everyone signs up for a free Skype account.
Maybe the booths won’t last but a new free Skype add-on has gained a following – the Skype Voice Changer.
As advertised, the voice changer (originally an audio project created by Mark Heath ) will change your voice in real time with special effects from a predefined list that can also be customized. Now go have fun with your friends.
