A Full Security VoIP Solution: Algo’s Voice Paging Plus Mobotix IP Cameras!

October 10, 2019 by Ying-Hui Chen

VoIP Supply has brought two of our amazing partners, Algo and Mobotix, together to offer you a full security solution!

How Do Algo and Mobotix Work Together

As a leading developer and manufacturer of professional alerting systems and security intercoms, Algo has been providing quality telephony solutions globally. Mobotix, a German-based IP video camera provider, acts as an extension of Algo’s IP Paging system to provide a top-notch intelligent surveillance system, recording to an SD card or to a centralized video management system.

Together, Algo and Mobotix provide customers the ability to broadcast appropriate messages through their SIP compliant cameras when necessary. Let’s see some common use scenarios:

After-Hour Alerts

Broadcast message stating closure or issuing instructions when person detected outside a building. If intruder remains, the camera can call the police or security, open two-way communication at the camera location.

Added value as opposed to “recording-only” surveillance system.

Open two-way communication with anyone on VOIP network anywhere there’s a Mobotix camera with microphone/speaker. (typically exterior, ALGO likely would handle all interior communication)

Dumpster Monitoring Example:

  • Mobotix detects intruder, plays message via camera: “This disposal area is off limits. Please leave immediately”
  • Second Warning: Mobotix turns on a light, plays second message “The police will be called if you do not vacate.” etc.
  • Third Warning: Call security with a pre-recorded message, play siren

How to Set Up Call Pickup on Digium’s D-Series IP Phones

October 4, 2019 by Ying-Hui Chen

Call Pickup is a feature that allows you to answer someone else’s call. This comes in handy in workgroup settings like customer service and/or call centers where you have high call volume to handle!

Setting up the Call Pickup feature is fairly easy on Digium’s D-Series and there are many customization options to make your communication as smooth as possible. Let us walk you through the steps:

How to Set Up Call Pickup on Digium’s D-Series IP Phones

To set up Call Pickup, you must log in as a Switchvox administrator and have the permission to manage extensions.

  1. Create a Feature Code extension of the type Directed Pickup:
    Setup > Manage: Create Extension
  2. Set a feature code and use Create Directed Pickup Group to specify the authorized extensions (who can pick up others’ calls) and the target extensions (whose calls can be picked up by the authorized extensions). Click Save Directed Pickup Feature Code.

  3. Set up the authorized SIP Phone extensions:
You can make this change in each extension, or use the Bulk Modify tool.

    • Digium Phone Settings: Contact Settings: Number of Rapid Dial Subscriptions
Ensure that items #1-5 (depending on phone model) are subscribed to. Meaning set this number high enough to serve your call pickup targets. Subscribing to the contact is how the phone knows that the target-contact has an incoming call.
  4. Optional settings:
    • Digium Phone Settings: Contact Settings: Directed Pickup Ringtone
Select a ringtone if you want an authorized phone to ring when a target has an incoming call. By default, the authorized phone does not ring.

NOTE: in the D80 model phone firmware version 1.9.5, the phone will need to be restarted after setting Call Pickup.

Have you successfully set up the Call Pickup function? You can even customize each extension further by setting up their rapid dial list and put Call Pickup targets in the top 5 items. Learn more details here!

How to Change the Dial Codes for 3CX’s Hotel Module

Q: How do I change the dial codes for 3CX’s Hotel module?

A: Dial codes are key/number combinations used to access functions within the phone system directly from your phone. The administrator can change these from the “Management Console > Settings > Dial codes” tab. Maid codes are specific codes which can tell PMS systems the status of a guest room in a hotel. This depends on PMS integration to be pre-configured. Learn more details here!

How to Register Snom’s C52 Wireless Speaker Phones to The C520 SIP Conference Phone

September 27, 2019 by Ying-Hui Chen

Out of all the conference phones VoIP Supply carries, Snom’s C520 is one of my favorites. One reason being that the C520 comes with 2 detachable, wireless DECT mics, allowing presenters to roam in the room and make your meeting very interactive!

Secondly, for a larger room setting, you can even further extend the range of the C520 with up to three wireless DECT Snom C52 Speaker phones! Now you just need one C520 conference phone for all your needs.

Is it complicated to connect the C520 to a wireless speaker phone though? You asked. Not at all! Check out how simple and quick it can be done within seconds:

How to Register a Speakerphone to The C520 SIP Conference Phone

Registering a C52 speaker phone to the C520 conference phone is quite simple! Just follow the steps below:

  1. Put the battery pack in the C52, connect the power adapter and plug it into the wall outlet. The LEDs on the C52 will flash orange slowly.
  2. Press white registration button underneath the battery compartment for about 5 seconds until its LEDs are flashing red and green alternatingly.
  3. On the C520 SIP conference phone, press the setting icon:
  4. In the Main Menu, press (or highlight 3 User Settings and press the check mark )
  5. In the User Settings menu, press(or highlight 6 Wireless speaker and press the check mark )
  6. Press 1 to register the C52 speaker phone. The screen will display Registering… and then Registration succeeded. The LEDs will then turn green briefly and turn off while red Power LED turns on.
  7. Now repeat the process for an additional C52 speaker phone. To cancel registration, simply press X.

Note that if a speaker phone is already registered to the phone, you must first deregister all speaker phones before you can register a new one. Also, if a DECT headset is already registered, you can only register up to two C52 Speaker phones.

Have you successfully registered your speaker phones to the C520? Do you want to learn more about the C520? Check out our product page or download the user manual here!
