How To: Hard Reset Your Polycom (Poly) VVX Phones

May 2, 2024 by jstewart
Poly VVX Phones

Need to factory reset your password of your Polycom VVX  phone but having a hard time? Did a service provider lock the phone and you need to redeploy the device? Luckily for you, the experts at VoIP Supply are pros at resolving issues like this for our customers! The following reset sequence applies to all Polycom VVX models. Hereā€™s what you can doā€¦

If your default admin password of ā€œ456ā€ has been changed and you do not know what the new password is, you will need to factory reset the phone. Power cycle the phone, press “Cancel” when the option appears on the display, and during the countdown sequence that follows, simultaneously press and hold the 1, 3, and 5 buttons until you’re prompted to “Enter Password to Reset Settings”.

Here’s where it gets very tricky if you do not have the admin password – you’ll need to enter the complete serial number from the back of the phone and use the “1->Aa” soft key below the display to toggle characters, ensuring all alpha characters are lowercase. For example, if you have the letter “C” in your serial number, you’ll need to press the toggle key until it reads “a->1A” on the display, and hit the “2” button three times to cycle to the C character. Once you have the complete serial number entered, press the “Ok” soft key to perform the reset.

Since the characters that you’re entering on the display are concealed, it may take a couple of attempts to get the serial number entered correctly, but don’t get discouraged – simply cycle power to the phone and try again!

Q&A: What is the Difference Between PoE and Non-PoE Products?

April 24, 2024 by jstewart
PoE Versus Non-PoE VoIP Products

How many different acronyms do we have to remember nowadays? And we also have to know what exactly they mean!? And then we have to choose the right acronym-type product that fits our specific application?! Well, yes. But the experts at VoIP Supply can help! You have probably seen PoE and Non-PoE when referring to networking equipment and weā€™re here to break it all down for you as well as help you choose what you need. This blog post will help you understand the differences and provide a few examples of each.

Whatā€™s the Difference?

The main difference between a Power over Ethernet (PoE) product and a non-PoE product lies in how they receive power.

1. PoE Product:

  • PoE products, such as PoE switches, access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones, are designed to receive both power and data over a single Ethernet cable. They eliminate the need for separate power cables, simplifying installation and reducing clutter.
  • PoE devices comply with IEEE standards such as 802.3af, 802.3at, or 802.3bt, depending on the power requirements of the device.
  • PoE allows for remote powering of devices, which can be particularly useful for devices installed in locations where power outlets are not readily available.

2. Non-PoE Product:

  • Non-PoE products, on the other hand, require a separate power source to operate.
  • These devices typically rely on traditional power adapters or power outlets for electricity.
  • While non-PoE devices may require additional cabling for power, they may offer higher power capacities than what PoE can deliver, depending on the specific application and power requirements.

Product Examples Includeā€¦

The key distinction between PoE and non-PoE products is the method by which they receive power. PoE products receive power over the Ethernet cable, while non-PoE products require a separate power source. The choice between PoE and non-PoE depends on factors such as installation convenience, power requirements, and the specific needs of the network or application.

Did You Know: IP Paging Integrates with Access Control and Security Systems?Ā

April 23, 2024 by jstewart
IP Paging and Security

One of the biggest challenges among organizations today is security and creating seamless integration between communication and access control systems is crucial for maintaining safety and efficiency in various environments. Did you know that VoIP IP paging solutions offer powerful integration capabilities with access control and security systems? Let’s explore how this integration works and the benefits it brings to organizations.

Integration Benefits:

Enhanced Security Management: By merging VoIP IP paging with access control systems, companies can enhance security management efficiency. This integration enables seamless coordination, like activating announcements or alerts in response to access control events, delivering instant notifications to the appropriate staff members.

Improved Emergency Response: During emergencies, swift and efficient communication is crucial. By integrating VoIP IP paging, instant notifications can be efficiently transmitted across different paging zones, effectively guiding occupants to safety or delivering vital instructions in critical situations.

Centralized Control & Monitoring: By utilizing integrated solutions, administrators have the ability to oversee access control and paging systems through a centralized interface. This streamlined approach streamlines system monitoring, configuration, and reporting, ultimately boosting operational efficiency and cutting down on administrative workload.

Case Study: Retail Store Security

Picture a scenario where a retail establishment utilizes an advanced VoIP IP paging and access control system. In the event of a security breach at a back entrance, the access control system swiftly activates an alert, triggering the VoIP IP paging system simultaneously. In a matter of seconds, a pre-recorded message notifies nearby staff of the situation, while security personnel receive instant notifications via text message or email.

Case Study: Educational Facility Security

In a busy educational setting, integrated VoIP IP paging and access control systems play a vital role in maintaining safety. If a security breach occurs, such as an unauthorized entry attempt, the access control system triggers an alert.

Instantly, the VoIP IP paging system broadcasts a pre-recorded message to all zones, notifying faculty and students of the incident and providing safety instructions. Security personnel receive immediate notifications on their devices, enabling a swift response.

With real-time data and analytics accessible via a centralized interface, administrators can monitor the situation closely and coordinate actions effectively. This proactive approach ensures a rapid and coordinated response, enhancing safety across the educational facility.

Product Examples:

Algo Solutions: Algo provides a variety of VoIP IP paging devices that are specifically crafted for effortless integration with access control and security systems. Take, for example, the Algo 8301 SIP Paging Adapter, which simplifies connecting to current VoIP phone systems, enabling seamless paging announcements triggered by access control events. Yealink T44U & T44W Product Feature Video

If you’re looking for a feature-rich, entry-level IP phone for your office or business, look no further than the Yealink T44U or T44W. At first glance, these phones look identical, and that is because they are! So what’s the difference you ask? One has WiFi, and the other does not.

We thought that Yealink offering the T44 in both WiFi and no-WiFi models was very forward-thinking because in some cases WiFi is not needed on an IP phone, thus giving the non-WiFi users a cost savings. And, because things change, if you end up outfitting your business with the T44U and then come to find that you do need WiFi down the road, these phones have 3 USB ports that can accept a WiFi and/or Bluetooth dongle. These USB ports can also be utilized for a USB headset, or wireless headset via dongle as well.

Yealink VoIP phones are renowned for their quality and reliability, but optimizing audio settings can further enhance your communication experience. In this blog, we’ll explore how to optimize audio quality on Yealink VoIP phones, ensuring every call is crisp and clear.

Check Network Connectivity: Before diving into audio settings, ensure your Yealink VoIP phone has a stable network connection. A reliable Ethernet connection or strong Wi-Fi signal is essential for clear audio quality. Check network cables, router settings, and wireless signal strength to eliminate any potential connectivity issues.

Adjust Audio Codec Settings: Yealink VoIP phones support various audio codecs, each with its compression algorithm and bandwidth requirements. Access the phone’s settings menu to adjust the audio codec settings based on your network environment and bandwidth availability. Opt for codecs like G.722 or Opus for high-definition audio quality, especially in environments with ample bandwidth.

Fine-Tune Audio Settings: Yealink VoIP phones offer a range of audio settings that can be adjusted to optimize audio quality. Explore settings such as microphone sensitivity, speaker volume, and echo cancellation to fine-tune audio performance according to your preferences. Experiment with different settings to find the optimal balance between clarity and background noise suppression.

Enable Quality of Service (QoS): Quality of Service (QoS) settings prioritize VoIP traffic on your network, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted communication experience. Enable QoS on your network router or switch to prioritize voice traffic over other data packets. This helps minimize latency, packet loss, and jitter, improving audio quality on Yealink VoIP phones.
