A Sneak Peek at Fanvil’s New XS and XU Series IP Phones

November 15, 2019 by Ying-Hui Chen

Since Fanvil released their XU Series IP phones, our team has been receiving a lot of interests and questions! In our recent webinar with Fanvil, we were able to interact with our partners and get their questions answered and we’d like to share them with all of you who may be interested.

Fanvil’s XS Series vs XU Series

Fanvil’s XS and XU series both are upgraded from the X Series IP phones including both software and hardware. Comparing to the XS Series, the XU Series comes with more SIP lines and advanced support such as PoE, IPv6, Opus, and more. Learn more about the differences here!

During the webinar, Tommy from Fanvil mentioned a ton of cool features that Fanvil’s XU Series IP phones are equipped with. I will quickly go through some of them here:

WiFi and Bluetooth

The XU Series is excellent for network environment with no or poor wiring. Simply plug the Wifi adapter into your XU Series IP phones and enable WiFi, you are ready to communicate wirelessly.

Video Preview

Fanvil’s XU Series supports IP cameras. You can set the DSS keys with the URL of your IP camera to play videos (switch between different LANs). Fanvil IP Phones can call the RTSP URL of a camera to preview the image of the camera on the screen. See how to set this up in our presentation slides.

SIP Hotspot

Fanvil’s IP phones also support SIP hotspot features. You only need to register one account and have that one account represent all the phones you have at multiple locations. When one IP phone receives a call, all client phones within its Hotspot group will ring and the first pick-up will answer the call.

And that’s not all! Download our presentation slides here to peak at more cool features and details!

Fanvil XU Series Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there any limitations on brand or model IP camera that will preview on the XU Series VoIP Phone?

A: The preview feature will work on all cameras that have an IP address and 264 codec.

Q: Does the X210i have all the features highlighted for the XU Series?

A: The X210i is a high-end feature phone. It has all the features that XU has and 3 times buttons, with an integrated side-car, BLF, sip hotspot, etc.

Q: What range can we expect from the built-in Bluetooth in X6U?

A: Bluetooth range depends on two pieces, the phone and the accessory.  It is intended for close range use so it only comes with the standard range, 33 feet.

Q: Will there be an additional sidecar for the X6U in the future?

A: The X6U, already has 60 available keys. If one needs a sidecar beyond the capability of X6U, I would suggest the X210 model

Our tech support team at VoIP Supply offers great pre- and post-sales support plus provisioning, consultations, configuration, and installation help. We get a lot of VoIP hardware and software questions and would like to share the solutions with everyone.

In previous Mom’s calling Q&A series, we have discussed: What versions of FreePBX provide a high availability HA solution? Today, we have more new real questions and answers from VoIP users just like you.

What can I do when my Snom C520 doesn’t ring

Q: What can I do when my Snom C520 doesn’t ring when there’s an incoming call?

A: You can try the suggestions below:

  • Make sure there is a dial tone before dialing.
  • Make sure the ringer volume of the phone is not set to off
  • Make sure the DC power cable, Ethernet cable, AC power cord, and the power adapter are plugged in properly
  • If other telephones in your office are having the same problem, the problem is in the wiring or IP PBX service. Contact your service provider (charges may apply) or system administrator.
  • Other electronic products such as ham radios and other DECT phones can cause interference with your conference phone. Try installing your conference phone as far away as possible from these types of electronic devices.
  • Unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, and then plug it back in. If you still cannot get a dial tone, please contact our customer service hotline designated above for assistance.

How Do Fanvil Devices Management Service (FDMS) and Provisioning Service (FDPS) Work?

October 29, 2019 by Ying-Hui Chen

If you haven’t heard about Fanvil’s FDMS (Fanvil Devices Management Service) and FDPS (Fanvil Devices Provisioning Service), you are really missing out!

FDMS/FDPS provides remote device management service via TR069. It allows you to manage devices through LAN or WAN and can support configuration, deployment and firmware upgrade capabilities. Better yet, the FDMS is completely free for all Fanvil service providers and resellers. Log in to learn more about Fanvil’s FDMS HERE!

If you missed our Fanvil FDMS/FDPS webinar, download the presentation slides here! Our webinar recording will be ready and published shortly. Stay tuned!

Key FDMS/FDPS Feature Overview:

  • Alarm notification of failures – Email, Web, SMS (Optional)
  • Device and System Logs – Phone, Door access
  • Door management monitoring and access control – Add/delete RFID Access Cards
  • Others – Video Preview * Network Phone/Contact Information Director Access

Fanvil FDMS/FDPS Webinar Q&A Session:

Q1: What will happen if I input the wrong MAC address? Will I provision somebody’s phone?

A: For a mass deployment, you will have a barcode to scan and won’t need to do this manually so chances are, you won’t make a mistake. However, if you do make a mistake, it will lead to an error if the MAC belonged to another real customer; if it was not existed, that would be fine.

Q2: Via TR069 can the FDMS access a device at a customer’s location to hit the phones GUI and specifically download a PCAP?

A: This is not currently supported but it would be supported in the future.

Q3: Does the FDMS provide an aggregator for multiple door boxes so one may track a specific person’s comings and goings?

A: There is EGS log in FDMS which will collect connected door phones’ door opened logs. But this is not for all coming and going. It’s only for door phones that have a keypad and card reader outside. There is a button or remote control to open the door internally.

Q4. Does FDMS provide MOS scores or other call quality information that will help the actual customers understand where their quality issues lie?

A: FDMS would receive phones’ RTCP-XR which are included MoS value for calls.

Q5: Does the FDMS support SMS alerts to US phones?

A: Yes it does. This is an optional feature. You may have to work with a 3rd-party in order to transmit the signal.
