Meet with the Professional at VoIP Supply

We are happy to host two UB students (Brandon Echeverria and Shu Ya Li) visiting VoIP Supply. Our Marketing Supervisor, Mary Cheney, gave the students a tour of VoIP Supply’s office and warehouse and introduced them to the whole marketing team to learn a variety of Marketing professional roles and discuss the marketing tools, professional skills, challenges, and joys involved in the team’s daily work.

The students learned how each role plays in the marketing department and how they cooperate with one another to deliver maximum value to the organization. They also had an insightful discussion with our team regarding preparing for interviews for a marketing position.

Check out the video below to see what Brandon has to say about his visit!

We are thrilled to have the chance to meet young professionals and guide them to a real hands-on business world. Thank you to University at Buffalo for giving us this unique opportunity to network with UB students!

“I think programs like this are so important for students in any field. It provides them with real-life experiences and gives them the opportunity to network with business professionals in their community,” said Mary Cheney, Marketing Supervisor at VoIP Supply. “Participating in programs like this is how I got my career kicked off and I’m so happy my team and I could pass along what we have learned to these students.”

How to Change the Language on the Yealink T42S

May 18, 2017 by Steve Lopian

It is no secret that entry-level IP phones are packed with features. They even do more than regular analog phones, period. Even as you climb up the IP phone scale to an executive level phone, it always seems like the phone will have some features that you could never imagine using.

But as we all know, there will come a time where you will need to use something that you never thought you would ever use, and this doesn’t just apply to your desk phone! This happens all the time in our everyday lives. As much as I’d like to blog about the time I actually needed to use a check to pay for something, we have to stick to the world of VoIP!

t42s

How to Change the Language on the Yealink T42S

So, today I am going to let you know how to change the language on your Yealink T42S! Doing this is actually quite simple. Just follow these few easy steps:

  1. Press the Menu button followed by Settings >Basic Settings >Language
  2. Press the up or down arrows on the phone to select the language of your choice
  3. Press the Save softkey to accept the change

And that’s it! After you save this change the text on the phone will change to your selected language. This may come in handy for users that need to see a different language other than English because the phone will display the English language by default. Other language examples to choose from are Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional) and French.

For those of us who use the English language natively, I cannot say when you will actually need to use this feature, but there are many different jobs and situations out there. For example, maybe you have a client visiting your office from overseas and he or she needs a desk and phone to use while they are visiting. No matter what is better to be prepared than not knowing at all! And of course, this could also be used as a pretty funny office prank too.

Have you ever needed to change the language on your desk phone? Let us know, and let us know why you needed to!

deployment

Grandstream GDS3710: What is it?

The GDS3710 is a new hemispheric HD IP Video Door System that can be used to monitor an area from wall to wall without any blind spots. This high-definition IP surveillance camera provides 180-degree coverage for maximum security. It has 1080p FHD video resolutions for clear video in all lighting conditions.

The GDS3710 is also an IP Intercom that serves as an access control unit. It has a built-in digital microphone that can pick up noise up to 1.5 meters away. It also has a built-in HD loudspeaker with a range of 3 meters. The GDS3710 features full duplex audio with advanced Active Echo cancellation (AEC) and Background Noise Suppression so that you can hear only what is important.

Different Access Options:

Independent Access:                                 Controlled Access:
RFID cards or fobs                                           Ring doorbell
Custom numeric codes                                    Dial an extension
Guest codes (with time settings)                     Motion detection
Dual authentication (RFID & code combination)

The GDS3710 supports alarm-in and alarm-out technology with (2) alarm inputs for door sensors or other like devices and (2) alarm outputs for electric locks, light switches or like devices.

Where can the GDS3710 be used?

Home Security

The GDS3710 is ideal for home security and access control. Users can monitor the perimeter as well as use the GDS3710 as a way to let visitors in and out of the property. You can set the GDS3710 to only sound when someone rings the doorbell, or you can also set it to detect motion and trigger an alarm.

residential

Small and Medium Businesses

The GDS3710 is a great tool for small to medium sized offices, apartment units or dorms where there is a need to control who enters a building. The GDS3710 can be programmed to require a custom numeric code, a RFID card or fob in order to gain access to a building or area.

smbs

Multiple locations

In a multiple location scenario integration with Grandstream’s IP PBX’s and Video Recorders would be essential for seamless integration. A PoE Switch will also be necessary. The GDS could be used to control more than entry into a building. It could be used to control lighting and trigger alarms for specified scenarios.

multiple

Facility Complex

Similar to a SMB deployment, the GDS3710 can be used to serve as an access control unit in an office, school or housing complex. When used with a Grandstream video phone, for example, a receptionist would be able to see who is standing at the door of the office right on her desk phone. The receptionist would be able to talk to the visitor and open the door directly through the deskphone.

GDS3710 and Grandstream Phones

The GDS3710 can be used with  Grandstream’s GXP2100 Series allowing users to open and close doors, store snapshots, watch live video feeds as well as use the intercom functionality through the phone’s interface. The GDS3710 can also be used with Grandstream’s GXV3275 and GXV3240 for full integration including motion detection configuration to store video feeds.

When used with Grandstream’s GXP1600 Series and GXP1700 Series users will only enjoy the Intercom feature, voice only.

GDS3710 and Grandstream Video Recorders

You can record to the Grandstream GVR3552 and the GVR3550 and also directly store live video feed.

How is the GDS3710 Managed?

You can manage your GDS3710 through the GDSManager, a free management software. Through the manager you can manage the RFID cards, view reports for door entrance as well as manage attendance.

When I try to edit in the web interface it claims local file has higher priority…

May 17, 2017 by Ying-Hui Chen

Our tech support team at VoIP Supply offers great pre- and post-sales support plus provisioning, consultations, configuration, and installation help. We get a lot of VoIP hardware and software questions and would like to share the solutions with everyone.

In previous Mom’s calling Q&A series, we have discussed: Grandstream DP750 Ringing Stopped Working. What Can I Do?
. Today, we have more new real questions and answers from VoIP users just like you.

When I try to edit in the web interface it claims local file has higher priority…

Q: These phones were provisioned for intermedia. We changed from 3-digit to 4 digit extensions and all the settings for each phone’s line 1 in regards to message center are wrong. When I try to edit in the web interface it claims “local file has higher priority”. If I export and then reimport the local file, having made the changes needed, those settings will still not get overwritten… what is going on?

A: I understand but this message here “local file has higher priority” means the XML/cfg file is coming from the provisioning server not you “locally” and this is why any changes you make won’t impact any new configuration. Some hosted PBX providers will lock their customers out from configuring the phone WebUI and or features on the UI because its not to their “standard” The tech might not be aware that when they provision phones, the customer is not able to edit. Maybe there is something in their portal I can see to disable, such as SIP credentials.

CopperLink 1101 PoE Ethernet Extender Breathes New Life into Circuits

Feel trapped by the limited distance of your Ethernet? Always have to relocate your device from a perfect spot because the Ethernet and power outlet are out of your reach? Thanks to the CopperLink 1101 PoE Ethernet Extender, you can finally say goodbye to those days and welcome a new level of flexibility!

If you are using a standard Ethernet, you may have noticed that there’s a 328ft (100m) distance limitation that restricts location options fro device installation. It also requires CAT 5 cabling or better, which often leads to installing new cabling infrastructure that may involve tearing into walls, ceilings, or worse.

The flexibility of device location makes a huge difference when it comes to such applications as building security or hospital monitoring. And that’s where CopperLink 1101 Extender comes into play.

What Does the CopperLink Ethernet Extender Do?

The CopperLink 1101 Ethernet extender extends an Ethernet or network segment beyond its distance limitation and enables Ethernet connectivity over previously installed copper infrastructure. The solution breathes new life into circuits previously deployed for such traditional non-IP applications as RS232/485 controls, alarms, CCTV, analog phones, intercom speakers, and others.patton-logo

With the CopperLink Extender, you can now install your IP terminal equipment exactly where you need it and instantaneously install PoE-compliant devices such as Wireless Access Points (WAPs), IP cameras, IP telephones, IP door stations with no additional overhead cost. See some highlighted features below:

  • Ethernet Extension – Extends 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet over 3300 feet (1005 meters) using 2-wire, 24-AWG twisted-pair, CAT 3, CAT 5e/6/7, or coaxial cable.
  • Delivers PoE – PowerPlus technology powers up both the remote CopperLink extender and the PoE enabled the device connected to it. No power is required at the remote location.
  • Transparent LAN Bridging – Passes higher layer protocols, including 802.1Q VLAN tagged and untagged packets. Fully transparent to various video compressions schemes such as WMV, MPEG-4, and MJPEG.
  • Plug and Play – Modems need no configuration to operate, Ethernet ports are auto-sensing 10/100, full or half-duplex.
  • Made in the USA – This Patton equipment is designed by Patton engineers and built in Gaithersburg, Maryland facility. Patton’s American-made manufacturing process delivers high-quality networking solutions with reliability you can trust.
