Our good friend Jon Arnold plugged this very site yesterday on his blog and pointed out that we have the best answers for IP Camera questions. We really are striving to create a conversation regarding anything that you may want to know, and you can ask us anonymously if you wish. Whatever the IP Camera topic, feel free to contact us with questions, news, ideas, anything you want. And Jon–thanks for the nod!

Is there a way to configure asterisk for IP camera?

    • Hi Lincoln,

You would need to create a SIP extension via FreePBX (Asterisk) or any SIP IP PBX server (Grandstream UCM /HOSTED, etc) first. Then, you would access the WebUI of the IP camera via its IP address. Within the IP camera configuration, look for “SIP Server or Registrar”. This is the IP address or FQDN of the SIP server. Now, enter the IP or FQDN of the server. The “username” will be the extension created in the IP PBX system and the password will be the password to be copied and then pasted into the IP camera. If the device is asking for an “Authentication name”, this would also be the extension number AND OR the authentication NUMBER the hosted provider provided.

Ensure, via your router/firewall rules, that they are port forwarding both UDP/TCP rule = 5060-5063 for the SIP/SDP connection.
Ensure, via your router/firewall rules, that they are port forwarding both UDP/TCP rule = 10000-20000 for the RTP Audio connection.

If you have further questions, please feel free to submit a ticket here! Thank you!
