Easy and Affordable IP Video Surveillance from QNAP!
If you are using VoIP in your home of office and have a need for video surveillance, take a look at QNAP. Qnap is known primarily for their network storage appliances, but they also offer one of the best IP Video Surveillance platforms we have come across.
The QNAP solution starts with a small-footprint Network Attached Storage Appliance. Onboard storage capacity on the Qnap VioStor product line ranges from 1 Terabyte – 8 Terabytes, depending upon the number of IP Video cameras you need to record. The front of the QNAP unit houses 1-8 hot-swappable SATA hard drive bays, which can be set up in a variety of RAID configurations.
The QNAP VioStor is configured and managed through a simple web based user interface. The actual NVR software is embedded in the firmware of the storage appliance itself, so there is no O/S to install or additional software needed. All of the QNAP appliances run on a Linux footprint.
QNAP provides a wizard-driven or manual configuration, and setting the system up is as simple as plugging it into your LAN along with supported IP Video Cameras from a wide variety of vendors, including popular ones such as Axis, Dlink, Linksys, Vivotek, Sony, Panasonic, Mobotix and many others.
The QNAP VioStor models are “channelized”, much like traditional security DVRs. They are available in 4 channel, 8, 12, 20 and 40 channel models. Qnap also allows you to administer and monitor IP Camera feeds from several QNAP VioStor units, in different locations, all from a single PC/locale. This means that if you have multiple homes or office locations, you can remotely view video feeds from all of these locations, in a single feed, from virtually any PC.
