Digium Switchvox SMB 4.5 Release Update

January 28, 2010 by Garrett Smith

Are you a current Switchvox SMB owner? If you are and you didn’t know already, Switchvox has formally announced its SMB 4.5 update which is available immediately. The update brings drastic changes and improvements to Polycom phones and Snom phones provisioned to the SMB solution. If you have Switchvox SMB, you already enjoy the intuitive and interactive, real time switchboard. If you don’t have a Switchvox SMB solution and are not familiar with the switchboard, here is a good look at it.

Now close your eyes and imagine much of the switchboards functionality, directly on your Polycom phone….waaaa—laaaa. That is exactly what Switchvox has done.

With SMB 4.5 and its “Phone Feature Packs” license (required purchase); users can now enjoy many of the same applications delivered over their web interface (on their computer) directly on their Polycom phones interface. These applications include a graphical User Profile complete with picture and all. Now when your contacts call you, you will see their smiling face along with their contact information and not just their phone number, but their email address, address, and title.

The next application that Switchvox brings to the phone is called Visual Voicemail. Visual Voicemail allows the user to “see” all archived VM messages, play them with the touch of a button, and easily manage, save and delete messages in a graphical manner. Do any of you hate listening to your VM IVR, “press 7 to delete to this message”, “press 8 to forward a message”, or even get stuck wasting time, continuously searching through menus for that saved VM message. Kiss that all goodbye with Visual VM application.

Switchvox now brings your contacts and customer phonebooks to your phone complete with a searchable directory. No more scrolling through your entire list of 500 contacts to find that person you need to call. All you will need to do is enter in your contacts name in the search field, find them, and simply press a button to call them, no need to dial their long long-distance number, you already have the number.

For those users that record calls no need to do this from your Switchboard any longer. You can now record calls on the fly directly from your phone.

Call Park is another feature that was predominantly used through the Switchboard, yes I know, you can park calls from your phone easily, but you couldn’t tell who was in the parking lot when trying to retrieve calls without the use of the Switchboard. Well you can now park calls from your phone and then retrieve calls in a visual parking lot with the single press of a button, directly from your phone.

A brief look at what these new applications main page looks like on a Polycom phone is below, pretty neat Switchvox!!

Along with these added phone features, SMB 4.5 does bring more additions to the SMB platform. Click here for a complete list and more information on this upgrade.
