SMS, also called texts, stands for short message service. It’s a messaging service that can contain up to 160 characters.
Why SMS? Some businesses rely on the SMS service for marketing campaigns and/or business notifications such as sales reminders, promotions/special pricing alerts or emergency alerts, important notification messages, and more. As more businesses are transitioning from traditional analog lines to VoIP, the demand for texting (SMS) through VoIP also increased.
Great news – Yes, it can be done through VoIP! SMS through VOIP allows users to send texts through an Internet connection. In order words, you are able to send text messages to cellphones from your VoIP devices.
By texting/SMS through VoIP, your business can reach out to a broader customer base at once and save more money. While most VoIP service providers charge a fee for SMS messaging service, it’s generally much cheaper than a traditional cellphone plan. Which VoIP providers can send SMS to Linksys phones that know how to receive them?
I know some providers will e-mail them, or access from a web site, but my phone knows what to do with them!
Hello!
Linksys phones are older phones and may not be supported by most of the service providers. Which models are you using? We can certainly check into this for you. If they are looking for SMS features, you may want to consider upgrading to newer phones.
Thank you,
Evy

Do you have VOIP instruments that support SMS messaging in the same way Smartphones support SMS imessage, etc. We are using 3CX with Bandwidth.com as a carrier.
Hi Mike,
3CX does support SMS messaging: SMS messages can be answered using all of the 3CX client options ranging from the desktop app to iOS and Android mobile clients. Incoming messages can be assigned to a queue of agents and reassigned if required. Use SMS marketing to boost business and drive customer engagement.
