Yes that’s right.
Unidata, the makers of the popular SIP WiFI phone WPU-7700 have introduced their latest SIP based WiFI phone, but with a big twist…..it supports video!!! May I introduce to you the Unidata SQ-3000…
Recently, I had the pleasure of BETA testing a few SQ-3000’s provided by Unidata and wow, was I impressed. Here are a couple of the highlights of which I have personally never seen on a SIP based WiFI phone:
I say this only because the product is still in it’s BETA testing stage and not all of the features and functionality are working 100% just yet. September 1st is the projected production release for this product.
That being said, let’s move on to the testing procedures. Both SQ-3000’s were tested on a Switchvox SMB 4.0 platform since Switchvox has built-in support for video calling via H.263/H.264 codecs. Also Switchvox supports the Wideband Audio codec G.722, otherwise known as HD Voice which the SQ-3000 also supports.
Setting up the Unidata SQ-3000 to register with Switchvox was very simple, and all done through the touch screen menu display on the phone:
The next step is to perform a site scan of available wireless networks, select the desired AP, create a profile, and connect:
After the device connects and registers, you will be ready for SIP video calling. Check out some of the screenshots of conversations I have had so far.

Chris,
What is the MSRP going to be for this phone?
MSRP is $449.95, current price is $349.95, I would expect that to go down a bit once the product has been shipping for awhile.
We've finally surpassed the old Dick Tracy comics!

Does the device really deliver wideband quality? Or just support the codec? That is, are the transducers up to the task?
@ Michael
We're still putting the SQ-3000 through its paces, but I was impressed with the voice clarity during my initial usage.
We'll have more on this phone in the near future.
I'm curious how many extensions can be provisioned on this phone. Since my Asterisk system doesn't transcode wideband, I am forced to set up seperate wide band and narrow band extensions. So hopefully it supports at least two.
Sorry Paul, the SQ-3000 only supports 1 SIP extension per device. (for now at least)
Sweet video on a wi-fi phone with wide band. P.S. I suggest you try FreeSWITCH with this phone it can transcode wide band to narrow band.
@Mark
I will suggest that to Unidata. This certification may be in the works. Stand by for a more definative answer from Unidata.
