How To: Create the Perfect Match for Hybrid Workplaces with Microsoft Teams & VoIP Technology

Hybrid work in the U.S. has boomed since 2020, with 53% of remote-capable employees now working in hybrid environments, up from 18% in May 2020, according to Gallup. During the COVID pandemic, I utilized Microsoft Teams and VoIP technology while working remotely to ensure everybody could stay connected and collaborate, whether in meetings, documents, or one-on-ones. It was essential to keep things “business as usual” during an unprecedented time. Below, we explore how to build the perfect match for hybrid workplaces using Microsoft Teams-compatible devices from leading brands like Yealink, AudioCodes, Ribbon, and Patton

Utilizing Microsoft Teams-certified devices ensures you can use every tool and feature with ease. For example, the Yealink MP58 Microsoft Teams IP Phone has a large 7”  touchscreen display tailored to the Microsoft Teams interface. This allows you to get to whatever Teams tool you need with the touch of a button. Additionally, this phone is enhanced with HD Voice and delivers some of the best audio quality.

Yealink also offers several headsets that are designed specifically for use with Microsoft Teams. For example, the Yealink WH64-HYBRID-DUAL-UC for Microsoft Teams Wireless DECT & Bluetooth Dual Headset -1208685 offers seamless connectivity for professional communication. With dual-ear coverage, superior noise cancellation, and a touchscreen base, it ensures clear audio and a premium user experience.

AudioCodes also offers a high-end IP phone designed specifically for use and integration with Microsoft Teams. The C470HD Microsoft Teams Touch PoE IP Phone is a Total Touch native Microsoft Teams executive business phone, featuring an intuitive design with a graphical portrait 5.5” color touch screen and a virtual keyboard.

When it comes to video conferencing, it is crucial to have clear and reliable audio and video communication. AudioCodes RXVCam70 PTZ Camera is certified for use with Microsoft Teams, boasting a 12x optical zoom close-up lens, a 119Âș DFOV panoramic lens, and a built-in mic array. It is ideal for any conference room or office setting.

Controlling and managing a hybrid work environment can also be challenging. This is why utilizing cloud infrastructures and management tools can help! How to Prepare Your VoIP Systems for 2025

November 20, 2024 by jstewart

Remember Back to the Future II? I loved that movie because they traveled into the future, 2015, where hoverboards and flying cars filled the streets. Welp, we are now about to be ten years past 2015 with no hoverboards or flying cars in sight, I don’t think. I am not sure what Doc Brown or Marty McFly would say about this, but I know that we here at VoIP Supply want to help prepare you for the future. Not for flying cars but for your VoIP systems. Let’s take a look at what you will need to know, review, and be ready for in 2025!

As we head into 2025, businesses must ensure their systems are ready to meet new demands. From cybersecurity upgrades to hardware optimizations, proper preparation will help your organization maintain seamless communication and stay competitive. Here’s how to prepare your VoIP systems for the future:

1. Audit Your Current VoIP Infrastructure

Start by assessing your existing VoIP setup. Review the following:

  • Hardware: Check if your phones, routers, and switches are up-to-date and compatible with the latest VoIP standards.
  • Software: Ensure that your PBX (Private Branch Exchange) or cloud-based VoIP software is running the latest version.
  • Network Capacity: Evaluate your bandwidth to handle increasing call volumes or additional features like video conferencing.

2. Embrace VoIP Trends for 2025

Stay ahead by adopting these key trends:

  • AI-Powered Features: Integrate VoIP systems with AI tools like speech analytics, virtual assistants, or real-time transcription.
  • Unified Communications (UC): Merge voice, video, messaging, and collaboration tools for a cohesive communication platform.
  • 5G Integration: Leverage faster and more reliable connectivity for improved VoIP performance.

3. Prioritize Cybersecurity

VoIP systems are frequent targets for cyber threats. Strengthen your security with these measures:

  • Enable end-to-end encryption to protect call data.
  • Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication for all accounts.
  • Regularly update firmware and security patches.
  • Consider deploying a Session Border Controller (SBC) to secure call traffic and prevent eavesdropping or fraud.

4. Optimize for Remote Work

As hybrid and remote work persist, ensure your VoIP systems support distributed teams:

  • Use cloud-based VoIP solutions for flexible and scalable access.
  • Provide employees with softphones and mobile apps.
  • Train staff on VoIP features like call forwarding and virtual extensions.

5. Test and Train

Regularly test your VoIP system to identify potential issues before they impact your operations. Additionally, train your staff on new features, security best practices, and troubleshooting techniques to maximize system efficiency.

6. Plan for Growth

Evaluate your business needs for 2025 and beyond:

  • Scale your VoIP system to accommodate more users or locations.
  • Invest in future-proof equipment that supports advanced codecs like Opus for superior audio quality.
  • Partner with a provider that offers robust support and scalability options.

By following these steps, you can ensure your VoIP systems are ready to meet the demands of 2025 while enhancing communication, security, and efficiency. Q&A: Wi-Fi 6 vs. Wi-Fi 5: What’s the Real Difference for Everyday Users?

November 14, 2024 by jstewart

Wireless internet? I remember sharing computer time with my siblings to wait 10 minutes for the modem to connect with that awful noise, and nobody could use the phone, all to make sure my AIM away message matched exactly what I was doing at the time. Maybe you were downloading music on Limewire or updating your Myspace page. Well, just like everything else, the internet evolved. It is a daily staple of work, shopping, games, school, and pretty much everything now. We all know we want the “fastest and best” internet, but what does that look like? Is it Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 and what exactly is the difference?  In this Q&A post, we’ll dive into the differences between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5 and what they mean for you in everyday life.

Q: What Are Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6?

A: Wi-Fi 5, also known as 802.11ac, is a wireless standard that’s been widely used since it was introduced in 2013. Wi-Fi 6, or 802.11ax, is the next generation of Wi-Fi, introduced in 2019, and it’s designed to handle more devices and deliver faster speeds, even in crowded areas.

Q: What Kind of Speed Boost Can I Expect with Wi-Fi 6?

A: Wi-Fi 6 is up to 40% faster than Wi-Fi 5, which is especially noticeable when downloading large files or streaming high-definition content. While Wi-Fi 5 can support speeds up to 3.5 Gbps, Wi-Fi 6 can reach up to 9.6 Gbps, although actual speeds will depend on your internet connection. The real advantage lies in efficiency, as Wi-Fi 6 is built to handle more data and reduce congestion on networks with multiple devices.

How Does Wi-Fi 6 Handle Multiple Devices Better Than Wi-Fi 5?

A: One of Wi-Fi 6’s standout features is its ability to manage multiple devices more efficiently. With Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), Wi-Fi 6 can split channels into smaller sub-channels, allowing it to serve multiple devices simultaneously without sacrificing speed. This is a huge upgrade over Wi-Fi 5, which struggles when too many devices are connected, leading to slower speeds and lag.

Q: Does Wi-Fi 6 Improve Battery Life for My Devices?

A: Yes, Wi-Fi 6 includes a feature called Target Wake Time (TWT), which lets devices schedule check-ins with the router. This means that devices like smartphones and tablets can “sleep” when they’re not actively using Wi-Fi, reducing battery drain and making your device last longer on a single charge.

Q: Will Wi-Fi 6 Help with My Streaming and Gaming Experience?

A: Absolutely. Wi-Fi 6 is designed to reduce latency, making it perfect for activities like streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing, where every millisecond counts. Wi-Fi 5 can still perform well for these tasks, but as more people in your household or area connect to the same network, Wi-Fi 5 may become slower and more prone to buffering.

Q: Do I Need a Wi-Fi 6 Router for Wi-Fi 6 Benefits?

A: Yes, you need a Wi-Fi 6-enabled router to enjoy the full benefits of Wi-Fi 6, and your devices need to support Wi-Fi 6 as well. The good news is that many newer devices, like smartphones, laptops, and smart home gadgets, are Wi-Fi 6 compatible. Upgrading to a Wi-Fi 6 router is especially worthwhile if you have a lot of connected devices or live in an area with many overlapping Wi-Fi networks.

Q: Is It Worth Upgrading from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6?

A: For many users, especially those with multiple devices and high internet usage, upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 can make a noticeable difference in network speed and stability. If you have a smaller household with fewer devices or only use the internet for basic tasks like browsing and emailing, Wi-Fi 5 may still serve you well. However, as more devices and streaming needs grow, Wi-Fi 6 will provide a future-proof solution for a smoother internet experience.

Wireless Networks: Understanding Your Wireless Connection

Wi-Fi 6 brings a range of improvements over Wi-Fi 5, from faster speeds to better support for multiple devices and improved battery life for connected gadgets. For everyday users, the biggest difference will likely be a more stable, faster connection, even when several devices are connected. Is it time to make the switch to Wi-Fi 6? The answer may just be a resounding “yes” — especially if you crave speed, reliability, and less congestion on your home network.
